Even though this song is essentially void of emotional content (it’s about running a counterfeiting operation out of a basement, of all things), the synth line fills me with an irrevocable sadness. I somehow feel it refers to the blackness and gloom of the album cover—technically a funny image!—especially Ricky’s exaggerated despair, and what all of that ended up meaning two years later. But whatever, I guess. I still like dancing to it.
