Did you know that there is an edition of The Great Gatsby that opens with these lines: “My name is Nick Carraway. I was born in a big city in the Middle West” instead of these: “In my younger and more vulnerable years my father gave me some advice that I’ve been turning over in my mind ever since”?????????????????
You see, the book is too difficult for young readers! Roger Ebert tells us all about it on his blog. Read it! It’s utterly shocking and he is rightly furious.
